How could a persistent squirrel teach us to put new lenses of appreciation? This week, our family witnessed a squirrel attempting to get bird food from our new bird feeder. The squirrel, whom I will call Jack, was the main character while we were mere observers through our warm and cozy home window. The first reaction was indignation: " Jack is trying to get the bird's food! Oh no!!!" Then, we attempted to scare it from our comfortable position (after all, it was too cold to go outside). Our puppy did a good job with the barking, but eventually, Jack found its way back to the food. We finally realized Jack was probably starving, and getting the bird food was its way of surviving.
